18th SYMPOSIUM OF SAR

SAR held its 18th Symposium on October 13th 2011 at the Sheraton Hotel in Damascus (SYRIA). It covered the broad subject of the patho-physiologic basis for the different biologic treatments in the major chronic rheumatic diseases, as well as the world experience with biologic drugs. During the opening ceremony, Dr Wael Al-Halaki, Minister of health presented an overview of the plans of Ministry for a better care for rheumatic patients, and planning for providing the biologic drugs to whoever needs them and whenever needed. Many of these drugs had already been dispensed to patients in the major Public Hospitals during the year 2011. Several rheumatologists presented their local experience with this category of drugs in the different diseases. Dr Majda Khoury, president of SAR, conducted the closing discussion and remarks about plans in the future for a better use of biologic drugs in rheumatology in Syria.

Most rheumatologists practicing in Syria attended, and joined in the interactive discussions. A convivial dinner gathered the attendees, tightening social as well as professional ties.
